The Woman's Personal Health Resource

Clothing and Accessories For Women With Special Needs

Hi,
I had a mastectomy a few months ago, have completed chemotherapy, and am now undergoing radiation. I am considering reconstruction, but would like to hear from others who have had the reconstruction. I am 67 years old, and am undecided if I want to undergo still another surgery. Advice please. Barbara

I know that you wanted to hear from people who have had reconstruction, but I did not go that way. I am 55, and I had a bilateral mastectomy 9 years ago, and I have found it quite easy. Bathing suits may be the most complicated issue, but I have found many attractive ones that work. Some have pockets, some do not, but I have learned (grudgingly) how to sew a pocket in. The bilateral may be the reason I find it easier, though, as I am balanced with or without a prosthesis.
